Safaricom, the leading telecommunications company in Kenya, has announced a planned system maintenance that will result in the intermittent unavailability of certain services. The maintenance is scheduled to take place from 11 PM on Saturday, May 20th, 2023, to 4 AM on Sunday, May 21st, 2023.
In a recent public notice posted on their Twitter feed, Safaricom provided a list of services that will be affected during the maintenance period. These include:
- Lipa Na M-PESA PayBill and Buy Goods
- M-PESA Business to Customer (B2C) and Business to Business (B2B)
- Daraja Portal and all M-PESA APIs
- M-PESA organization Portal, Dealer portal, and Lipa Na M-PESA portal
- International Money Transfers (Western Union) and M-PESA Global
- M-PESA App and Safaricom App
- M-Shwari, KCB M-PESA, and M-Kesho
- Hustler Fund & Fuliza New Limit allocation
- Pinless Top-up
- IoT services
However, it's important to note that call data and SMS services will not be affected and will remain available throughout the maintenance period. Additionally, other M-Pesa services not listed above will continue to function as usual.
Safaricom emphasizes that planned system maintenance is vital for their continuous innovative growth, allowing them to bring newer opportunities to their valued customers. While this maintenance is essential, it may inconvenience millions of Safaricom customers, especially those who heavily rely on M-Pesa PayBill and Buy Goods services for their everyday transactions.
